Dating from circa 1797–1809, this remarkable antique ring bears the distinctive Parisian “poinçon de décharge” hallmark in the form of a small cock’s head, confirming its French origin during the final years of the Revolutionary era. At its centre sits a luminous 5.5mm saltwater pearl, elegantly framed by two rough mine-cut diamonds within a stylised petalled setting measuring approximately 12mm across. Crafted in approximately 18-carat gold and weighing 3 grams, the ring carries its hallmark stamped to the outer rear of the shank — a right-facing cartouche used prior to the changes in the French marking system after 1809.
Created during one of France’s most dramatic historical periods, the ring would have existed in the aftermath of Marie Antoinette’s execution in 1793 and during the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte following his coup d'état in 1799. Its survival offers a tangible connection to a turbulent yet artistically significant moment in French history.
Despite being more than two centuries old, the ring remains in exceptionally well-preserved condition. Under 10x magnification, only the slightest wear can be observed to the lower edges of the pearl, a subtle indication of its age and authenticity. The combination of historical importance, rarity, and enduring beauty makes this an especially captivating example of late 18th to early 19th century French jewellery.

Is my item insured?
We unfortunately cannot be held responsible for items which go missing in the post (rest assured, this is an exceptionally rare situation), we always obtain a receipt to prove that we have fulfilled our duties and have shipped the item via whichever method you selected. If you selected International Tracked delivery then we can file an insurance claim to seek reimbursement for the missing parcel up to the value of £250 (please be aware that any successful insurance claims will be forwarded to the customer upon our receipt of them and not before); however if you selected standard airmail then no compensation can be claimed.

Delivery and PO Boxes

DHL Express Worldwide is a door-to-door time definite service. An equivalent service may be used at our discretion.
