1970s Colour changing purple sapphire 12.45 ct gemstone. Silver statement ring by Hermann Siersbol - Sweden. Ring size R (UK), size 8 5/8th (US), weight 9.2 grams A stunning vintage ring by this contemporary Swedish designer designed as a large open halo set with a large round synthetic purple colour changing sapphire gemstone. A superb statement ring of large but elegant proportions. A striking and modernist statement ring from an outstanding contemporary Swedish designer and although there is a slight kink to the shank, this not apparent when worn.
Made from silver with the maker's mark clearly stamped to the inside of the shank. This is a beautiful and amazing purple sapphire ring that dates around the mid 1970’s. The outer halo of the ring is 21.9 mm in diameter and the claw set stone is 14.7 mm in diameter with an estimated carat of 12.45 cts. The ring has a split style rear shank and a weight of 9.2 grams. Some signs of associated historic wear commensurate with a piece of its age and era but overall in good vintage condition, cleaned and sympathetically polished. Antique box is not included, this ring will come in a new ring box.
About colour changing sapphires
Some colour change sapphires will have a slight visual change, while others have an incredible 100% change of colour. This means that the stronger the percentage of the colour change, the more expensive the sapphire. Large sizes with strong colour change can be especially valuable and demand very high prices. These are true collector' stones. Many sapphires shift colour between purple and violet under different lighting conditions, but a few rare and exceptional sapphires change colour dramatically. For colour-change sapphires, clarity is far less important than the degree of colour-change. eye-clean stones are extremely rare, and most collectors are content with slightly included colour change gems.
Natural colour changing sapphires are usually quite small, and because rough is rare, they are not normally supplied in calibrated sizes. Colour-change sapphires are found almost exclusively in Madagascar and Africa and in very small quantities. The rarest of colour change sapphires come primarily from Tanzania. Larger stones are often laboratory grown however they still share the same chemical composition and physical properties as natural sapphires, making them visually indistinguishable to those who are unfamiliar with gemology. These are still very beautiful and desirable gemstones and as such offer buyers more choice at much more affordable prices. A stunning alternative to nature's own creations.

Is my item insured?
We unfortunately cannot be held responsible for items which go missing in the post (rest assured, this is an exceptionally rare situation), we always obtain a receipt to prove that we have fulfilled our duties and have shipped the item via whichever method you selected. If you selected International Tracked delivery then we can file an insurance claim to seek reimbursement for the missing parcel up to the value of £250 (please be aware that any successful insurance claims will be forwarded to the customer upon our receipt of them and not before); however if you selected standard airmail then no compensation can be claimed.
